abstract soulfood
Abstracts inspired by my favorite foods --- aesthetic comfort with zero calories!
You see, growing up in a large family (I’m the youngest of 9 children), meals commonly pulled us all together, and still do to this day. I didn’t inherit mom’s passion in the kitchen and, ironically, I’ve dined at a table for one most of my adult life, so food has taken on different meanings through the years. All the same, my favorites trigger fond memories and good emotions. So, as I pondered painting more intuitive abstracts, I tapped into those wonderful emotions.
These abstracts aren't intended to look like the food that they were inspired by, but rather convey the personal feelings and experiences that accompany them. I challenged myself to let go of what something looked like, and just painted from my soul (and my stomach!) rather than from my eyes.
With only hints of the real subject matter --- maybe the colors, maybe the shapes, maybe the textures, or even the packaging…but not all of it in every piece, lest they’d start to border on realism rather than abstract.
Good luck guessing what food inspired each of these. I just hope my #soulfood series feeds your soul in some way...Bon Appetite!
